Mission
Statement
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children
with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human
experience with hope, strength, and joy.
History
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 and has grown
to include 69 chapters across the United States. The Mid-South
chapter began in 1986 and since then has made the dreams of
more than 3,000 deserving children come true. The Make-A-Wish
Foundation of the Mid-South, Inc. serves Western Tennessee,
Northern Mississippi, and the state of Arkansas.
Guidelines for Using
the Make-A-Wish Name
1. The ® symbol must appear in superscript at
the first mention
of the Make-A-Wish. For example,
the title of your story could say “Make-A-Wish® Visits
School” or “Make-A-Wish
Foundation® Visits
School.” The symbol does not have to be used each time Make-A-Wish is
mentioned.
2. If you are referring to the Mid-South chapter of
Make-A-Wish, please include the entire chapter name: Make-A-Wish
Foundation of the Mid-South, Inc.
3. The “A” in Make-A-Wish must be capitalized.
Verbiage To Use
1. Please DO NOT use the terms “terminally ill,”
“dying,” or “last wish,” when referring to our children.
2. Please DO use the expression “children with
life-threatening medical conditions.” More than 80% of the
children
for whom we have fulfilled wishes are
still alive and we like to think that the wish had a positive impact on
their
well-being.
3. Please DO use the expression “proceeds benefit the
Make-A-Wish Foundation” in regards to a fundraising event.
