Refer A Child

E
ach wish experience is unique for the child, the family and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There is a general process by which a child is referred, qualified and granted a wish.

Step One: Wish Referral
Wish referrals can be made by one of three sources:
1. The child
2. The child’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
3. A medical professional treating the child, such as a doctor, nurse, social worker, or child-life specialist.

Contact the Make-A-Wish Foundation with your referral.

Step Two: Determining Medical Eligibility
Any child between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18 with a life-threatening medical condition may be eligible for a wish. The child’s treating physician determines whether the child is medically eligible and able to participate in the wish.

Step Three: Identifying the Wish
A wish team comprised of volunteers and/or Make-A-Wish Master Wish Granters visits the child and asks a simple question: “If you could have one wish, what would it be?”

Step Four: Granting the Wish
With the child’s imagination driving the process, the wish granters set out to create a magical wish experience. Each wish enriches the lives and uplifts the spirits of the dozen, sometimes hundreds, of generous people who help grant the wish.
